JOC Goes Strange in Limburg
Together with Pop in Limburg, Jazz Maastricht, Stichting Nieuwe Helden and Zomerparkfeest, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw (JOC) is looking for adventurous Limburg musicians who are open to experimentation. For the project "JOC goes Strange," the big band will travel to Limburg to make music with artists from various disciplines and walks of life. The music of the guest artists is central to this project and the big band acts as a musical sparring partner to make big band adaptations of their music. The result will be presented during a short tour at various venues in Limburg, including the Zomerparkfeest in Venlo.
Interested parties can apply through jazzorchestra.com until Friday, March 24, 2023.
The kick-off will take place during JazzOut Fest Limburg on April 12 at Kumulus Theater Maastricht. The selected musicians will then participate in a jam session together with several members of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw to transform their own musical project into big band format.
Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw
The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw consists of world-class Dutch jazz musicians and ranks among the top in Europe. The orchestra has won several Edison Awards and worked with famous (jazz) musicians such as Chick Corea, Dr. Lonnie Smith and Joshua Redman. The orchestra values talent development & innovation and does so in different ways and for different age groups, both inside and outside jazz music. For example, the big band has the projects 'JONG JOC', where young talented musicians form the youth section of the jazz orchestra and 'Jazz Influencers', where they give the new generation of jazz musicians a platform. The orchestra also tours the conservatories with the Big Band Academy to give conservatory students the opportunity to play in the jazz orchestra.
